Acupuncture Pain and Stress CenterAcupuncture Pain and Stress Center can provide you with a comprehensive form of health care that has been tested and proven effective on millions of people for the last 100+ years. Acupuncture can be used to treat everything from sport injuries and chronic pain to motion sickness, irritable bowel (IBS) and serious cases of depression and anxiety.

How does acupuncture work?

Thin, sterile disposable needles are inserted into specific areas of the body. These points will be determined after evaluation of your condition(s) and the effects of those condition(s) on your body. Each treatment will be individualized as no two people experience pain or stress in the same way.

What am I supposed to feel during a treatment?

Generally speaking, the vast majority of patients feel extremely calm and often sleepy once the needles are in place. Some clients have even commented that it is more relaxing than a massage!

Some common 'no-brainer' conditions easily treated by acupuncture:

  athletic sprain/strain
  acute/chronic Back pain
  neck pain/strains
  tendonitis
  arthritis
  pre-/post-surgery for
  accelerated healing
  sciatic pain
  all muscle pains

headaches (including
migraines)
palpitations
cold/flu
sinus issues
asthma
motion sickness
IBS (irritable bowel)
all digestive issues
acid reflux

anxiety
depression
irritability/anger
panic attacks
trauma
fatigue
insomnia
high levels of stress

What will happen at my first treatment?

I will use traditional Chinese diagnostic methods, review the new patient paperwork, and have an in-depth discussion about your treatment needs. If you have multiple issues, we will also spend time prioritizing your needs. I will formulate a custom treatment plan for you. Then, needles will be inserted into chosen points and stay in for 20-30 minutes you as lie on the table, most likely in a state of deep relaxation. When your time is up, I will take out the needles and you can continue on happily with your day.

How does acupuncture work to relieve my pain and/or stress?

The easiest answer I can offer is that no one has a definitive explanation. I believe that the reason acupuncture is so effective is that there isn’t just one factor, but that many reactions are going on at once involving different systems. This includes the central nervous system, lymphatic system, blood vessels, muscles and bone marrow. This interrelation allows acupuncture to have such wide, strong and lasting effects.

How soon will I start to see changes?

This depends on what you need addressed, how long it's been present and your general state of health. Typically, short-term (acute) problems will probably respond within 3-5 treatments. Longer term (chronic) problems may take 12 or more treatments before consistent change occurs. I will provide you with an estimated timeline in which we expect you to start seeing results.

Do the needles hurt?

You may feel a bit of a pinch when the needles are tapped in, but with most points you do not feel anything at all.

Will I bleed?

Most likely, you will not bleed when the needles are taken out. Occasionally, a drop of blood may occur.

Will I have to get acupuncture forever to keep feeling good?

Likely not, but this also depends on the reason(s) you're getting treated in the first place. For shortterm issues, a handful of acupuncture treatments should do the job. For chronic or longstanding issues, a maintenance schedule of some sort would be in order to keep systems running smoothly and steadily after the initial period of relief and change.
